Along with co-developers Guard Crush Games and Supamonks,Dotemuhas announced the release date forAbsolum. The game that mixes the classic sidescroller beat’em up with roguelite elements will be available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Switch on October 9.
Fight Against Oppression in a Fantasy World
Absolumtells the story of a small group fighting against the tyranical Sun King Azra, who has used a magical cataclysm as an excuse to ban magic. As one of four fighters, each with their own circumstances and specialties, players will have to fight against many enemies in brawls.
Along with the release date, Dotemu has shared a trailer that shows a bit of Brome in action. This character is a mage that hails from the Mowlaï tribes, a group of humanoid frogs that once held the land of Jaroba as their home.

Unfortunately, over time, Brome saw his people be devastated and become slaves to the new regime. Seeing this makes the character feel agony, fear and despair, as he hoped to see a better future for his kind and would prefer not to succumb to rage. However, he’ll join the group and fight to correct this injustice.
Born with magical prowess, Brome excels at his use of a staff not only to cast spells on enemies, but also for melee combos. He can also use it as a way to traverse areas by gliding, making it work like a hoverboard.

A Modern Beat’em Up Experience
Absolum is a game that draws inspiration from the classic beat’em up games, but adds roguelite elements to it, making it what the developers call a “Rogue ‘em Up Action RPG.” Though the experience in each room is the traditional sidescroller action experience players have come to know in the old games, the way the game is built on powering up, dying and repeating the cycle makes it significantly different.
One of the game’s distinctive aspects is the fact that players may pick which route they’d like to explore. As rooms provide branching progression, it’s up to the player to find out new challenges, quests that they have yet to complete, and secrets that they may not have unveiled in previous runs.

It’s possible to play it in single-player mode or share the experience with a friend in online or split-screen co-op. Each player may select one of the four main characters who have different weapons and skills. Progressing through the areas will unlock rewards, which may power them up for that specific run. There are also some resources that can be used to enhance characters permanently and make their next attempt smoother.

While there are still almost two months for release, players who are eager to get their hands on the game may currently enjoy a demo on Steam. This build covers the first area of the game, the Grandery, and three of the playable options. It’s possible to explore multiple perks and see how things work together to create a modern beat’em up.
