When picking a ranged character inElden Ring Nightreign, you may want to consider using Recluse. She is a sorcerer who can deal with high damage with weapons that require faith and intelligence. While melee weapons are an option, her strengths are gained when having a solid set of staffs and learning how to regularly regenerate your FP to keep your spells going strong throughout your battles.

Say Goodbye to Your Custom Characters in Elden Ring Nightreign

Elden Ring Nightreign is the first From Software title since Sekiro to not allow players to create their own characters. Here’s what happens instead.

Recluse’s Abilities

Specializing in spellcasting, Recluse has many answers to keep herself safe while at range.

Ultimate Art

Recluse is a fantastic spellcaster, and the way she works is very different from what most players of FromSoft games will be used to. She can regenerate her mana by collecting Affinity Residues from enemies and allies alike. This allows her to constantly stay in the fight, and if allies are attacking with magic, fire, holy, or lightning, you’ll be able to imbue your Magic Cocktail with effects that trigger new spells to cast without using FP.

Recluse’s Magic Cocktail Spells

These spells will vary depending on what elements you’ve imbued in your cocktail.

The four total tiers of cocktail combinations are important to remember for various scenarios you encounter. Having a set that you can cycle through while on a run will be the biggest way to cast the Magic Cocktails you desire.

Weapon Priority

While she can use melee weapons, you’ll still want to think carefully about the weapons you choose.

Recluse doesn’t have a preferred weapon, and the drops you do get from bosses will be geared towards her best stats. The best options you’ll have will be a mix of melee weapons that will help you in close encounters, and a variety of staffs and seals that will give you spells and incantations you can use regularly. Staffs and seals use Recluse’s best stats, Intelligence and Faith, to have more potent spells, which make them a valuable part of her kit in general.

The overall goal will be to gather staffs of varying quality and spells for various situations with a melee weapon to deal damage should your FP get low. Melee weapons are extremely valuable with Recluse, as sometimes you won’t be able to cast due to pressure from bosses, and every bit of damage will count for these fights. If possible, you’ll want to obtain staffs with spells like Loretta’s Greatbow or Ancient Death Rancor. These two spells are great due to the range they have.

With Recluse’s lower HP stat, you may wish to keep a little further from bosses than other characters. Always keep an eye out for the Staff of the Guilty for some high-damage blood magic spells, orLusat’s Glintstone Stafffor powerful glintstone spells. If you are seeking fire magic, you can also find theGelmir Glinststone Stafffairly frequently, as well as with various fire spells attached to it. There are plenty of spells with area of effect damage surrounding Recluse, but these are only ideal for smaller enemies that will be staggered by the spells. Bosses may take some damage, but it isn’t advised unless you are very confident in your timing with a boss’s moveset.

Talisman and Relic Priority

The priority for talismans and relics will be to bolster your casting stats and spells.

When getting your talismans and relics, you’ll want to buff your spells as much as possible. Talismans that increase your FP or lower your FP skill and spell cost are a great choice, so you may cast as often as possible. If you can find theGraven-School Talismanwhile on a run, you’ll want to pick this talisman over the rest. ThePrimal Glintstone Bladeis another good choice as it will reduce your spell FP cost by 25%, but at the cost of lowering your health by 15% as well.

Your relic priority will be geared towards increasing your spell affinities, such as fire attacks or glintstone spells. Increasing your resistances is also a great idea so that you may survive in certain environments and scenarios that bosses will put you in. These are generally up to player preference and what boss you are going to end up fighting in the end. However, anything that can bolster your attack will always be a solid choice for Recluse.
