The Envoy needs to arm himself with the best equipment possible inAvowed’s Living Lands, and there’s nothing better than the versatile Hel’s Tongue. This blade ends up being one of the better two-handed weapons for not only melee classes, but is highly recommended for magic users, at least as a secondary weapon.
Avowed: Heart of Valor Quest Guide
The heart of a giant beast is one of the most valuable artifacts in the world of Avowed, and it’s your job to get it back for an old sailor.
What is Hel’s Tongue?
Hel’s Tongueis a unique Exceptional Quality sword found in Shatterscarp’s wastelands that has already been upgraded once.
This sword acts as a surprisingly decent secondary loadout for mage users due to its Soul Reaver skill that restores 10% of your Essence upon a kill. While there are tons of food that can be eaten to slowly regenerate Essence, Essence Potions themselves aren’t super plentiful in the world. Because of this, you’ll constantly be left with low Essence during a fight, even if you have a fully upgraded Grimoire or skills.

So, because Avowed allows you to swap between weapon loadouts on the fly, when you’re low on Essence, you can swap to this sword to regenerate a good portion. It certainly helps that this sword in general is very powerful and can be a good substitute for more warrior-based classes until a dedicated HP-regen weapon is found.

Where to Find Hel’s Tongue
The first thing you need to do is gain access to Shatterscarp’s area. This is the third region in Avowed, acting as the third chapter where you travel to Thirdborn and recruit Yatzli as a permanent party member.
The location is a considerable trek if you have first arrived in the area, as it’s on the complete opposite side of the map. You will need to travel all the way east intoTwin Offerings Overlook. This isfar east from the Thirdborncity and immediately west of the Sand Sea Oasis. If you’re doing theOne Last Drink quest, you will eventually arrive at the Sand Sea Oasis to find Tauwe, making it a good opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.

The Twin Offerings Overlook is actually a large Xaurip camp. As the name implies, it is an overlook that utilizes a large stone structure as a base of operations. Better yet, at the top of the overlook you will run into theChieftain Grithinbounty. So really, if you’re also doing the One Last Drink quest, you’re taking care of three tasks at once.
Regardless, this isn’t a particularly long encounter as you will find numerous Xaurips on the base floor, and while there’s a little bit of parkour needed to get to higher platforms, it’s the top of the Overlook that you have to look out for. Here you will face off against the Chieftain and numerous minions. The first thing you will need to do above anything else is kill the Xaurip Shaman. This enemy will heal the Chieftain to full health whenever he’s struck, putting you in an infinite battle loop.

Outside of this, the Chieftain isn’t particularly difficult. Just mind his triple-strike attack that will continuously leap towards you with every swing. It’s easy to lose sense of your surroundings when he does this, so be careful not to fall off the Overlook in the process.
After slaying the Xaurips, continue even further up the giant overlook. There is another level that will lead to a Memory, alongside an offering of food and the Hel’s Tongue.

Where to Place Mourner’s Bouquet in Avowed
People need to mourn the lost in Avowed, and while it seems beneath the Envoy, helping out those in need is what they do best.
