First, it hasn’t been the GREAT game that many expected, receiving very positive but also some mixed reviews.And second, the adaptation ofJourney to the Westinto a video game has been a tremendous commercial success, ensuring new installments of the Monkey King in the coming years.
Black Myth: Wukongmanaged to overcome the criticism regarding its embargo restrictions and is currently the most popular game on the Steam Deck.
Game Science has not shared official figures, but reputable sources like Bloomberg report an impressive number.According to their data which hasn’t been confirmed by the game’s developers,Remember, the game was released on August 20, so it has reached these numbers in just two weeks. Incredible!
Emulates Hogwarts Legacy
IfHogwarts Legacywas the sales phenomenon of 2023,Black Myth: Wukongseems poised to take that title in 2024 (though we’ll see if Shadow of the Erdtree changes that, but it doesn’t seem likely).
The Monkey King’s game has sold 18 million copies in just two weeks, accounting for all units sold between PlayStation 5 and PC. Keep in mind that the Xbox Series X|S version has been delayed indefinitely.
According to Bloomberg, the game’s creators are already considering how to continue the story in a sequel, though nothing is official yet.
What is confirmed is thatBlack Myth: Wukongwill receive DLC, which is already in development, according to a spokesperson from Game Science. It seems it will be similar toElden Ring’sexpansion.
Despite its overwhelming commercial success, it’s important to note that 80% of the sales have taken place in China, the home country of Game Science and theBlack Myth: Wukongproject.This meansBlack Mythhas sold between four and five million copies in Japan and the West, including data from Europe and America.
It has been available since June 15, 2025, on PS5 and PC. Regarding its arrival on Xbox, a Forbes report indicates that the delay is not due to technical issues as claimed by Game Science but rather due to an exclusivity agreement with Sony.
