Marvel Studios have revealed the first images ofHarrison Fordas Thaddeus Ross inCaptain America: Brave New World. Following hot on the heels of first footage from the 2025 release at CinemaCon,Entertainment Weeklyhave offered up the first publicly released images from the movie, which also debutAnthony Mackie’s new Captain America suit. After the events ofThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Mackie’s Sam Wilson finally agreed to take on the mantel left by Steve Rogers inAvengers: Endgame, and it looks like one of his first tasks is going to involve bringing together the Avengers again.
Captain America: Brave New Worldwill see several changes to the hierarchy at play in the MCU with Sam as the new Captain America, and the introduction of Ford’s Ross as the US president. In his new role, having previously been responsible for dividing the Avengers, it seems that Ross now has a very different view on the superhero group. In footage shown at CinemaCon, as perVariety, Ross is saved from an assassination attempt and tells Sam, “I want Captain America to help me rebuild the Avengers.” Although the footage sees a salty Ross tell Sam he is “not Steve Rogers,” it appears that the film will be the first stepping stone to the Avengers team that will attempt to the save the MCU inAvengers: Secret Warsin a few years’ time.
Captain America: Brave New World
Captain America: Brave New World (formerly titledNew World Order)marks Sam Wilson’s first MCU big-screen appearance as Steve Rogers' successor after receiving the suit and shield in Phase 4’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie returns as the titular Avenger alongside Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Carl Lumby as Isaiah Bradley, and Tim Blake Nelson as The Incredible Hulk’s former ally Samuel Sterns. Harrison Ford makes his MCU debut replacing the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross.
The new images, which can be seen below, show Sam in a dark, shadowy corridor carrying the iconic shield of Captain America, and meeting Thunderbolt Ross in scenes that suggest this will be a grounded and gritty entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s story after several big, space-bound offerings.
Anthony Mackie Promises a “Grounded” Movie in Captain America: Brave New World
There has been a lot of speculation about what events will transpire in the newest addition to the Captain America sub-franchise, and just like many of Steve Rogers’ solo outings, this film will not be venturing on an intergalactic adventure. In his interview with EW, Mackie shared his view on whatBrave New Worldwill deliver. He said:
“It made more sense for it to be more of a grounded espionage action movie as opposed to aliens and airplanes coming through portals and sh*t. I think with these movies, you’re getting a clear, new branding of what Marvel is headed towards the same way they did with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
Of course, this does not answer the many questions fan have been asking about the film. When it was originally announced, there were several rumors that the film would finally addressthe remains of the Celestial Tiamut, whose Emergence was halted inEternals. Those rumors also suggested that the Celestial would be discovered to be a source of Adamantium, which would lead to a tense political stand-off between nations of the world attempting to claim the prize for themselves. However, the subsequent casting of several stars fromThe Incredible Hulk, including Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson, suggested a very different story playing out.

The emergence of Red Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems inevitable now.
However, for now, there has been no official word on the actual plot of the movie, so all of this could still come into play. The one thing that has become apparent is thatCaptain America: Brave New Worldwill begin the long process of rebuilding the Avengers, and that in itself is potentially the beginning of the end for the MCU as it hurtles towardsthe game-changingSecret Warsin 2027.
