Helldivers 2features a number of varied mission objectives on each planet. Some will have you go on a purposeful killing spree, taking out a specific number ofTerminidsorAutomaton enemies. Some will have you evacuating scientists or civilians from active warzones. Some will still have you blowing up high-priority targets, whether they be bug nests, missile silos, or illegal broadcasts. While many of these can be solved by your usual slate ofpowerful Stratagems, some of these missions require something specific. Something big. Something like the Hellbomb.

The Hellbomb is a mission-specific Stratagem that you won’t normally have access to during your usual load-out when preparing to drop onto a hostile battleground. Instead, Hellbombs will become an available Stratagem after within range of a specific mission objective. This guide details what missions you can expect to need a Hellbomb — and just how to use the damn thing when the situation calls for it.

Mission Objectives That Utilize Hellbombs
There are a few specific mission objectives during which you’ll be tasked with using the Hellbomb Stratagem.
Sometimes, you’ll find armed but undetonated Hellbombs on assorted mission types as well — leftovers from previous missions gone wrong, no doubt. Be careful around these, as a single shot from yourprimaryorsecondary weapon— or god forbit your grenade — will make them explode in a matter of seconds. These are fantasticbigexplosions you can take advantage of if you’re being swarmed byany of the vicious enemies in the game.
Hellbombs are basically mini-nukes, so make sure you put some good distance between you and a soon-to-be-detonated Hellbomb, or your friends might be picking up bits of Helldiver from the surrounding area.

How To Use Hellbombs In Helldivers 2
Hellbombs work similarly to other Stratagems, though they require an extra step — and they are location dependent. When you first drop on a mission that will utilize a Hellbomb, you won’t see it on the upper-left side of your screen with your other Stratagems. The Hellbomb Stratagem will only show up when you are within the proximity of your Hellbomb-specific mission objective.
Sometimes, the prompt doesn’t show up right away, even when you are in the mission area. For example, when searching for the research base to destroy, the prompt might not become available until you find the specific building you need to destroy.
Once within the proximity of your mission objective, the Hellbomb Stratagem will become available.
After punching in thisStratagem Codeand throwing the Stratagem beacon at your target location, you don’t need to worry about an explosion — though don’t stand directly on the drop point! Hellbombs do not detonate on impact. Instead, after impacting at the mission site, they then need to be armed.
How To Arm Hellbombs
Once the Hellbomb is on the ground, you need to walk up to it, interact with it, and punch in the on-screen code.
Once the code sequence is complete, the Hellbomb will begin beeping, and you will need toRUN. Seriously, this thing is a mini-nuke, intended to completely obliterate the surrounding area.
If you immediately start moving away from it without running, you willprobablyexit the explosive radius before it goes off, but best practices will be to sprint directly away from the Hellbomb right away.
If, for whatever reason, your target is not destroyed by the Hellbomb,you are able to call in another Hellbomb— just make sure to place it closer to the target this time!
