Prioritize Safety and Distance from Monsters
The Bow is a strong long-distance weapon, maintaining a safe distance is key to using the weapon well.
The Bow is a solid weapon that will have a high damage output once you’ve gotten a solid grasp on how to handle the weapon. The main goal is to maintain consistent stamina to use it as often as possible while under pressure as well. Keeping just enough stamina for a dodge after shooting a volley into a monster will be the best bet on staying safe. The weapon has a longer range than almost every other weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds, but that doesn’t mean you stand far away and throw out damage without danger. Even though it is classified as a long-range weapon, you are still somewhat close to these monsters, and they will close that distance quickly.
You want to keep up the damage with Arc Shots, Dragon Pierce shots, Thousand Dragons, Focus Fire: Hailstorm, and your arrow coatings, but you still want to ensure you have the means to escape an incoming attack. Dragon Pierce is a strong attack that will pierce through monsters but has a long wind-up time, so you need to time it where a monster won’t be charging at you. The Thousand Dragons attack is similar but has a smaller window to where it activates, but does less damage in general. Focus Fire: Hailstorm is another extremely useful move, as when you aim and have it setup you’ll be able to lock on to your tracer arrows stuck to the monster, but also target the monster’s wounds. All of these tools combined make the bow a heavy-hitter weapon, and when in the right hands it can do a ton of damage.

Old Bow, New Tricks
A straightforward weapon, but with some new changes and tools to use.
Unlike the previous versions of this weapon, there have been a few updates to how it plays to make the weapon easier and more versatile. Tracer shots are a new addition to Monster Hunter Wilds and have a few quirks to pair with it that are very handy and welcome. On top of this, you no longer have to bring in ammo types for hunts. Each bow will come with a set of arrows that can be recharged during each hunt. So, when on a hunt, you can bring a bow with Exhaust Ammo and use a Tracer that will ensure that those arrows land on their mark.
The change where you no longer need to bring specific arrows on hunts is quite interesting, making choosing a Bow more of a choice that comes down to ammo preference. The Trick Arrow gauge is a very nice change that allows you to use as many arrows as you can to gain the upper hand in hunts. Before, there was always the issue of running out of arrows as a fight carried on. But now you have a choice on what you get to throw out at the monster while actively in the fight.

The Bow is a strong choice for a weapon as it allows you to focus on taking down a monster while at a safer distance than most weapons. Pairing this with new tools and changes to how ammo works, it almost feels like a whole new weapon. The Trick Arrows will take some getting used to but are overall the same as the past versions of the weapon. It is a solid choice of weapon that requires you to focus more on fights and less on remembering combos to take on these monsters.
