The development ofResistance 4could have become a reality onPlayStation 4—Insomniac Gamespitched the project to Sony, but the company declined.
Resistance 4 Was Proposed by InsomniacGames
It has been 14 years sinceResistance 3,and fans of the saga created by Insomniac Games still haven’t forgotten it. They refuse to give up and continue hoping to see it on PS4 or PS5, even though that seems unlikely.
Ted Price, former CEO and founder of the studio—now part of PlayStation—revealed that Insomniac had pitched a"wonderful concept"for Resistance 4 to Sony, but the company chose not to move forward with it.

Price, who announced his retirement from the gaming industry in January 2025, now has more freedom—like Shuhei Yoshida—to discuss certain behind-the-scenes topics.
After more than 30 years at the company, he appeared on Kinda Funny Gamescast, where he was asked if he had a favorite project that never got the green light—one that “got away.” His answer?Resistance 4.

“Yes, we did pitch it,” Price confirmed. “And it was a wonderful concept. It came from the passion of many Insomniac team members who wanted to expand the story.
“I think Resistance established an amazing alternate historical setting where anything could happen with the Chimera—where they go, what their origins are,” he explained.
“We spent a lot of time working on the story and brainstorming ideas about where we could take it in the future.” However, as we now know, that future never materialized.
There are two main reasons for this: first, Insomniac is busy with Marvel’s Wolverine and other projects; second, Sony simply wasn’t convinced. According to Price, “the timing and market opportunity” weren’t right for Resistance 4 to move forward.
It’s unclear exactly when this happened, but as Eurogamer points out, in 2011, the studio stated they had"no plans"to make Resistance 4, and by the following year, they made it official: “We’re not making any more Resistance games.”
Even so, Price told Kinda Funny that he would love to see Resistance revived because the franchise is"close to my heart,“even though Insomniac has moved on to other projects.
“When you work on a franchise for so long, it’s nice to have the opportunity to move on to something else. But at the same time, it’s also great to be able to return to it.
“Fortunately, since [Insomniac] is part of Sony, and Sony owns the Resistance IP, there will always be an opportunity to revisit Resistance,” though it might not be the same.
Insomniac’s “Wonderful Concept” for Resistance 4 That Never Happened
While this news may disappoint those hoping for a fourth Resistance game, Price shared a philosophical perspective:
“I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason,” he told Kinda Funny.
“And when I look back at the games we made—the ones that were well-received, the ones that weren’t, the ones we never made—all of those experiences led us to where we are today.
“Which is an incredible relationship with Marvel and working on games that truly excite us,” referring to Miles Morales and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2—not to mention Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
