Who will play the nextJames Bond? This question is one of the biggest questions surrounding action movie blockbusters right now. And while speculation and rumors continue to swirl, we at least now know one actor who will “firmly” not be playing the new 007.Ted LassostarPhil Dunster, who is best-recognized for playing the lovable-yet-egotistical footballer Jamie Tartt in the hit sports comedy series, has revealed that a “conversation” between his agents and the James Bond producers had even taken place. But sadly, it was a firm “no.”
“There was a conversation one of my agents had, but they quite firmly shut the door in their face.”

This harsh revelation from Dunster (viaDailyExpress), at the very least, rules out one up-and-coming British and Irish actor for the role of James Bond. As it seems thatevery single other even slightly familiar nameis in the running. Also known for the likes ofThe Devil’s HourandHumans, we can think of worse actors for the role of 007. But, alas, it seems that there is just something about Phil Dunster that doesn’t match the plans for the franchise moving forward.
A New James Bond Favorite Was Recently Crowned
For some time now,Kraven the HunterandBullet Trainstar Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been the favorite for the role of James Bond, with many feeling thatthe actor would be perfectly suitedto sipping a martini while killing bad guys. However, following the critical and box office failureof Taylor-Johnson’s Marvel outing, and a prediction from THR, a new bookie’s favorite has now emerged.
According to the latest data, the odds are no longer in Taylor-Johnson’s favor, withThe CrownandChallengersstar Josh O’Connornow at 1/1 odds to be cast as James Bond in the planned reboot. Aaron Taylor-Johnson finds himself dropping to third at 2/1, whileThe Gentlemenstar Theo James takes second place at 6/4. Other names among the top choices includeGladiator 2star Paul Mescal andFantastic Beastsactor Callum Turner. Unfortunately, despite continued support, Man of Steel star Henry Cavill finds himself dropping further and further down the list as time passes.

One Actor Has Appeared In More James Bond Films Than Brosnan, Craig, and Connery Combined
He’s made appearances in 17 James Bond movies and you probably didn’t even notice…
Daniel Craig, who first played 007 in the 2006 rebootCasino Royale, walked away from the coveted role inexplosive fashion in 2021’sNo Time to Die.At present, it is unknown exactly how longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson plan to bring the beloved action franchise (and character) back to life, but we can only assume that it will be in the form of a hard reboot. With this in mind, we can likely expect a younger actor to be cast in the lead, with Josh O’Connor fitting many of the criteria that was previously laid out by Broccoli and Wilson at the end of last year. For now, we will have to be patient. But at least we can cross one name off the ever-growing list of candidates.
