It’s been a rough ride for Kevin Costner’sHorizon: An American Sagafranchise.Chapter 1opened in theaters last June to mixed reviews and a poor box office turnout, resulting inChapter 2being pulled from its August 2024 release slot. But the film’s success on streaming reignited hopes forChapter 2to receive a theatrical release. While the state of Kevin Costner’s Western sequel remains in limbo, the actor/writer/director has already turned his attention to filming the third entry in the four-part saga. Fans have yet to get their hands onHorizon - Chapter 2, as only a few lucky critics at select film festivals have seen the movie. But, Costner is clearly optimistic about making all four movies, as starDanny Hustonjust gave fans a much-needed, and long-overdue, positive update about the future ofHorizon.
Danny Huston recently spoke to Screen Rant to promote the digital release of his movie,Consecration, and the actor gaveHorizonfans something to finally be happy about regarding the future of the franchise. While he is also none the wiser about thetheatrical release ofChapter 2, the actor revealed that production onChapter 3reached a great point before filming was halted. “I think he’s got a lot ofChapter 3in the can, actually,” Huston revealed.

Kevin Costner’s Latest Western Series Is His Most Heartbreaking Yet, and It’s All True
‘Kevin Costner’s The West’ solidifies the link between the actor and a genre that romanticizes a pivotal part of American history.
That’s great news for the future ofHorizonbeyond the shelvedChapter 2, as having most ofChapter 3’s filming completed likely means that whichever studio picks the film back up will be more inclined to seeChapter 3through to fruition. “But there’s no stopping him,” Huston said of Kevin Costner’s determination to finish the four-partHorizonseries. “He’s just unbelievable, and this dream of his is coming to life in a spectacular way. It’s just extraordinary what he does.”

What’s Going On With ‘Horizon’?
Trying to get theHorizonfranchise up and running again seems as tumultuous as the settlers actually building the titular town in the wild west.Chapter 1sits in the awkward Hollywood limbo of flopping at the box office but finding great success on streaming. It was enough for fans to want a sequel, but not enough for Hollywood to desperately want to make one. That’s where Kevin Costner comes in, self-funding the film series with over $100 million of his own money.
However, even with Costner funding the production, the film’s distribution remains a mess. This has been hurt even further by threeongoing lawsuits leveled against Costnerand the studios behindHorizon. Two are related to missed payments regarding the film’s production. The third is a sexual harassment suit from one of the film’s stunt performers regarding an unplanned sex scene fromChapter 2. The lawsuits are, at least for now, three very long nails inHorizon - Chapter 2’s coffin.

Fans of the western franchise are still desperate to get their hands onChapter 2. Many were hoping that the movie premiering at various film festivals would be enough to entice a distributor to take the film to theaters. But, at least for now, it appears as though fans might bewaiting a lot longer untilChapter 2’s future is confirmed.
