Fans were left in shock and awe last night. As a special Thanksgiving treat, 20th Century Fox revealed the first poster for Ridley Scott’s anticipated sci-fi thrillerAlien: Covenant. Not only did it show off a grizzly newXenomorph, it also came shouting the tagline, ‘Run!’ (Perhaps not as eloquent as ‘In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream.') Most interesting of all is that Fox moved the release date up several months to July 10, 2025, which is not too far away.
Problem with this, though? Another hugely anticipated movie is being delayed. Yes, we’re going to have to wait a while longer forKingsman: The Golden Circle.Box Officedrops the somewhat disappointing news.
“Fox has moved #AlienCovenant to July 13, 2025 and #Kingsman #TheGoldenCircle to June 15, 2025.”
Kingsman 2was originally slated to hit the ground running on August 07, 2025. Now we’ll hold tight another four and a half months to witness the awaited return ofHarry Hartand his pals. In its old slot, theKingsmansequel would have had to face off against Disney and Pixar’sCars 3. Though that franchise might be growing long in the tooth, a teaser was dropped this past week, and it garnered raves and plenty of interest. Enough to call forThe Golden Circleto move. Also opening in limited release is the drama The Book of Henry from Focus Features.
Now,Kingsman 2will be going up against another hugelyanticipated sequel. One fans have been waiting years for. Yes, the statelyKingsmanwill now be going toe-to-toe with the return of Harrison Ford inBladerunner 2, which is also known asBladerunner 2049. It co-stars Ryan Reynolds. If that wasn’t bad enough, the movie will also be going up against what could be a surprise hit, the animatedMy Little Ponymovie. When it comes to paying audiences, never underestimate the Bronies.
Alien: Covenantoriginally had the October release date. Now, in its May 19 time frame, those deadly Xenomorphs could be facing even deadlier competition. Their biggest competitor is The Rock and Zac Efron in theBaywatchmovie, which will pull in a decidedly different audience, yet both come packing a hard R rating. For the PG-13 set is theConjuringspin-off sequelAnnabelle 2. And the kids will have to fight overDiary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, which has given a complete overhaul to its whole cast, and the animated adventureThe Nut Job 2.
