The cast forSpider-Man: Homecomingabsolutely exploded with talent after being announced. Marvel surroundedTom Hollandwith a ton of excellent and exciting actors to make this movie something potentially very special throughout production.Robert Downey Jr.will even be reprising his role as Tony Stark yet again, but perhaps most exciting is Oscar nomineeMichael Keatonbeing tapped to playVulture, who will be the main villain in the movie. He has been pretty quiet since taking on the role, but now he is finally talking a little bit about the movie and it is nothing but praise.
Michael Keatonrecently spoke withDeadlinein honor of his new movieThe Founder, which is going to be making its way into theaters shortly. Fortunately for Marvel fans, he was willing to talk a bit aboutSpider-Man: Homecoming. Even though he couldn’t give much away, he had nothing but praise to offer, specifically for Marvel Studios as a whole. Here is what he had to say.
“I have thought about the way things have changed, because I just didSpider-Man, and Marvel? That is one well-oiled machine. It is remarkable how they have got that whole thing covered in a really qualitative way. Just how efficient it is, in the best sense, and how it operates on a practical level. How organized they are about what they make and how conscientious they are about what they have. They’ve got really wonderful actors for one thing, but I guess that has always been the case. Batman always had great actors surrounding that character. We had Pat Hingle and all these terrific actors. They really get that script is important, and they really protect their lore and that culture and they see the enormity of it, on a capitalistic level.”
Even fans with a relatively passive understanding of Marvel Studios is probably aware ofKevin Feigeand his fierce dedication to making sure these movies go according to play. Especially in the case of something likeSpider-Man: Homecoming, but it is really great to hear it from someone likeMichael Keatonwho just worked on the movie and is playing a rather significant part in it. In addition to praising Marvel’s way of doing things, he specifically took a moment to praiseTom Holland, who is taking over duties as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward.
“A great kid, by the way. [Setting up future films] doesn’t sound easy to do. I haven’t seen any of those movies, though. I just haven’t. It’s not a judgment.”
Michael Keatonisn’t shy about admitting he hasn’t really watched any of the MCU movies so far, but that shouldn’t really be an issue in terms of him being able to do his job. His role was largely a mystery until recently, but we finally got our first look at Vulture in the first trailer forSpider-Man: Homecoming, and it looks like getting an Oscar-worthy actor likeKeatonto play the character of Adrian Toomes (aka Vulture) was a great move by everyone involved. For a while before production, it looked as though the deal wasn’t going to get done, but Marvel found a way to make it happen, which sort of speaks to that “well-oiled machine"Michael Keatonwas referring to.
