Monster Hunter Wilds Long Sword Build (High Rank)- In this Monster Hunter Wilds Long Sword High Rank Build, I’ll be showing you aLong Swordbuild that will help you progress through the late game/end game, or as most Monster Hunter players would say, the “true game”. At this point in the game after the credits have rolled, the Long Sword has several great options depending on your strengths and preferences when using the weapon. This build is made to complement the strengths of the Long Sword by increasing the damage and timing windows of the Iai Slashes and to keep up the active time using the Long Sword longer for maximum damage damage in your hunts

Monster Hunter Wilds Long Sword Build (High Rank)

Equipment makes up the vast majority of your Monster Hunter Wilds Long Sword Build (High Rank), once you’ve selected your weapon type, and there are many things to consider. Let’s begin with Weapons first, since there are many many options, and some are better than others for what we are trying to do in this Long Sword Build.

High Rank Long Swords

Uth Khlunda I

Once you’ve reached the end of the story and go into the late game High Rank Environments and hunts, a very good weapon to use at this point is theUth Khlunda I, which is a Long Sword of rarity 3 that offers increased damage compared to other variants of the Long Sword for the trade-off of a reduced affinity of -15%, which will result in you dealing less critical strikes overall.

The Uth Khlunda I also has Water Element in its attacks which will help in your hunts against later monsters you will face in the game, as only a few of the monsters you will face against will be resistant to water. The weapon skill of the Uth Khlunda I is thePower Prolongerlevel 2 and this allows the Long Sword to stay powered up in the respective spirit levels longer giving you more time to level up to the red level at the higher levels or stay in the red level longer to use the Crimson slashes and deal more damage and create more wounds on the monsters.

Another good option is the Long Sword from the Guardian Arkveld tree, theG. Veldian Ensis I, which is a Long Sword of rarity 4

Similar to the Uth Khlunda, the G. Veldian Ensis also offers increased damage for the trade-off of a reduced affinity of -10%. The advantage of this Long Sword is that it has Dragon element attacks and can cause dragon blight on the monsters. What the dragon blight does is that it deals increased damage to the monsters and will shut down the elemental effects of the monster you are hunting during the duration of the debuff. For example, aRathalosafflicted with the dragon blight status effect will not be able to use its fire breath attacks while the debuff is active.

Monster Hunter Wilds Long Sword Build (High Rank)

The weapon skill for the G.Veldian Ensis isFocuslevel 2 and this increases the rate at which you will fill up the spirit gauge with each of your attacks that land with higher levels increasing the rate further.

If you are confident in your ability to land the counters of the Long Sword using the Iai Slahes and Iai Spirit Slashes, there are two great options to choose from between the Long Sword from the Ore tree, theIron Katana II, which is a rarity 4 and the one from the Doshaguma tree, theDosha Fatecleaver II, which is also a rarity 4 longsword.

Monster Hunter Wilds

TheIron Katana IIwill not have a reduced affinity like theUth Khulndaor theG. Veldian Enisand as such it is not as strong per strike but it has the advantage of being slightly easier to forge since it only requires the mining materials.

The main reason to use this Long Sword if you’re able to rely on your Iai Slashes is because of the weapon skill,Critical Draw, which will be at level 2. Level 2 ofCritical Drawgrants theIron Katana IIan affinity of 75% to its draw attacks, which includes Iai Slashes for the Long Sword, meaning you will be mostly landing critical strikes while using Iai Slashes.

PC

If you are not looking for critical strikes but a Long Sword that has the potential to stun a monster, then theDosha Fatecleaver IIis for you. The Dosha Fatecleaver has a slightly increased base damage compared to the Iron Katana because of its -5% reduction in affinity but it has the benefit of receiving a bonus 20 value to your Defense.

The weapon skill of the Dosha Fatecleaver, thePunishing Draw, is what allows you to stun monsters in addition to an increase in damage to your draw attacks.

This addition of stun damage and increase in attack value of +5 will make your Iai Slashes stronger when you land them. Although they are both strong weapons in their own rights, the Iron Katana and the Dosha Fatecleaver’s full potential will be realized in the hands of master hunters who can land their Iai Slashes reliably, which can take a bit of practice to do so.

Monster Hunter Wilds Long Sword Build - High Rank Armor

For the armor sets for this Monster Hunter Wilds Long Sword Build (High Rank), once you’ve reached the late game, you can start with using a combination of 2 pieces of theAlloy Alpha Set: theAlloy Coil AlphaandAlloy Greaves Alpha.

You can strengthen the effects ofEarplugsusing the decoration slot.

For the Helm, the build will utilize theKut-Ku Helm Alpha, and you can swap in theKut-Ku Greaves Alphaif you wish forConstitutionskill level 4.

The main reason why I would recommend the alpha set instead of the beta set for theKut-Ku Setat this point is because you can get the skill as long as you can craft the armor and will not have to rely on decorations which can sometimes be hard to get the decoration with the skill you want because it is randomized and you cannot do targeted farming for the skills.

Also, theRecovery Upskill level 3 from using these pieces will greatly increase the rate you restore your health when you drink options making it faster to get back into the action.

You can even swap out theRompopolo Vambracesfor theKut-Ku Vambraces Alphaif you feel like you dont need theEarplugskill.

Monster Hunter Wilds Long Sword Build - Talismans

The talisman that we will be using for this Monster Hunter Wilds Long Sword Build (High Rank) is theSheathe Charm I, as it will get the quick sheathe skill to the max level and will help with the Iai Slashes for this build.

As you play through the late game, if you can get the parts to upgrade the charm to level 2, this will also increase the level of the skill it provides, letting you switch out from the alloy set to other pieces that you are looking for.

Another solid talisman to use in this build is theExploiter Charm I. The Exploiter Charm gives theWeakness Exploitskill. That increases the damage of attacks that hit the wounds created on the monster by 3% and against weak points by increasing the affinity by 5%.

Decorations

There are two different types of decorations in Monster Hunter Wilds, the weapon decorations and the armor decoration.

At this point in your Monster Hunter Wilds Long Sword Build (High Rank) you wont have many decorations if you haven’t actively farmed them. Luckily, this build does not need decorations to be effective and is built around what you can farm early once you’ve reached the High Rank Environment after finishing the story.

Apart from theUth Khlunda I, depending on the weapon you are using you’re able to put decorations on the Long Sword at this point in the game. TheG.Veldian Ensis Ihas two level one decoration slots and you can put in twoAttack Jewel 1sfor maximum damage.

Depending on which Long Sword you are using at this point, both theIron Katana IIand theDosha Fatecleaver IIwill have one level one decoration slot and if you have the decoration, you can put theGambit Jewel 1, with the Dosha Fateclevear for max levelPunishing DrawSkill or theDraw Jewel I, with the Iron Katana for the max levelCritical Drawskill.

The build is made to help players get through the game once they have just reached the high rank environments of the late game after the credits have rolled. As such, even though it mainly focuses on using parts that would be readily available at this point in the game, there is a chance that you will not have all the materials you need to get all the pieces used in this build. A variable degree of time and farming may be needed to get this build together depending on your luck and skill level.

Gameplay wise, with the Long Sword being one of the strongest weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds, there is very little weakness from using this weapon in your hunts.

Progression

After playing through the late game and facing off against a certain short-temperedNerscylla, you will gain the ability to craftArtian Weapons. The Artian Weapons are rarity 6 levels that can be reinforced to increase their damage and their element and affinity can be affected by the parts you are using during the forging process.

The Artian Weapons are crafted from materials gained from hunting tempered variants of the monsters and they are really strong to use in your hunts until you have gained enough materials to get the strongest weapon of your choice.

For the armor sets, you can upgrade into theGuardian Ebony Alpha Setas you farm for parts and progress into the end-game before and use this set to farm for parts that you want for your strongest armor and weapon.

Final Thoughts

TheLong Swordremains one of the strongest weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds and once you have reached this point in the game, you will be fairly familiar with its moveset and its timings.

Although the decorations can take a bit of luck to get what you want, you can reliably farm the monsters and target specific parts for increased chance to get a specific part you are looking for. For example, if you are missing one or two Kut-Ku wings to craft a piece of Kut-Ku armor, you can focus your attacks on hitting the wings of theYian Kut-Kuand once you have opened a wound on the wing, you can use your focus strike to destroy the wound and this will have an increased chance to drop you the Kut-Ku wing drop.

Being a very strong weapon, I found that as someone who is using the Long Sword in their hunts, you have little need for a secondary weapon. But in some rare cases when you are struggling, having aBowas a secondary weapon will help you deal damage to the monster from range and study the monster’s attack patterns before switching back the Long Sword and resuming your attacks.
