Review: Mortal Shell
Whether you’ve played these kinds of titles before or not, Mortal Shell solidifies itself as a serious contender.
The player assumes the role of the Harbinger, a chosen individual that, according to prophecy, is destined to reclaim the stolen Ova of the blessed Undermether. As such, it’s up to the player to fight the various creatures that guard her unborn child

The game abandons the stamina system to provide combat that doesn’t restrict players to anything other than their skills and strategy. There are multiple ways to exploit enemies' weaknesses, and it’ll be important to master them to strike them down.
As the player explores Mortal Shell 2, they’ll find dormant forms of forgotten warriors. These “shells” will be a way to unlock extra powers and unique abilities that will be helpful to survive against the threats of this world. It’ll also be possible to find lost memories and secrets to the story along the way.

The first trailer reveals some of the dark atmosphere of the project, which explores a doomed world filled with corpses and ruins. Some powerful and intimating enemies are part of the video, which shows brutal, visceral combat with a variety of weapons.
Venturing through an Open World of Decay and Death
Mortal Shell 2’s world is an interconnected open world with twisted landscapes and hidden structures. Despite this, the developer promises that somehow it’ll also respect the player’s time with a “deliberately compact” design, which seems like a contradictory statement at first and a very delicate balance to achieve.
According to the developer, the idea is that there will be many winding paths to explore. By deciding to go to one of them, players will have the chance to find more story bits, Shells, weapons, upgrades and other rewards.

According to the developers, it’ll feature unrestricted action with a strong sense of adrenaline and focus on free exploration. Weapons will also have many more options for upgrades.
Some of the areas include abandoned temples, forbidden forests, bone citadels and graves. Altogether, the game will feature more than 60 dungeons with strong challenges that will test players' skills.
