Writer-directorJames Gunnis currently working on the script forGuardians of the Galaxy 2, but the filmmaker recently took a break from his busy schedule to host a Q&A session on hisFacebook pagelast week, where he teased new details regarding this highly-anticipated sequel. Be warned, though, if you have not seenGuardians of the Galaxyyet, there will be SPOILERS throughout the story, so read on at your own risk.
At the end ofGuardians of the Galaxy, the tree-like creature Groot (voiced byVin Diesel) appeared to have died, only to “come back” in the form of a growing “Baby Groot,” whose dancing scene shown over the end credits remains one of the most popular scenes in the film.James Gunnrevealed that Groot may still be dead, hinting that “Baby Groot” may be Groot’s son. Here’s what he had to say below.
“Well, who says baby Groot is Groot and not Groot’s son. He might be dead.”
The filmmaker also added thatKaren Gillanwill be back as Nebula, although Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) will not return for the sequel, although he did leave the door open to return in future movies. Here’s what he had to say about Nebula coming back:
“Sometimes people are confused what happens to Nebula. She looks down for something to fall on, allows herself to fall on a Ravager craft, and takes out the Goth Ravager inside and flies away, leaving everyone to deal with this s*** themselves, because she’s stopped caring. She will be back.”
He also talked about the possible inclusion of Lylla, who is listed as one of Rocket’s associates during the prison scene. In the comic books, Lylla, a talking otter, is Rocket’s girlfriend, but revealed that he isn’t sure this character will appear in the sequel.
“You’ll have to wait and see on Lylla. But I will say I think a raccoon being sexually attracted to an otter is similar to a human being sexually attracted to a possum. I think it’s very important that Rocket is the only thing like him, which is the source of his sadness and loneliness. An otter girlfriend could get really cartoony really.”
One ofJames Gunn’s regular collaborators isNathan Fillion, who had a cameo inGuardians of the Galaxyas a massive prison inmate at Kyln.James Gunnadded that he’d love to find a way to bringNathan Fillionback inGuardians of the Galaxy 2.
“I would love to putNathanin GotG2 if it could work out. He’s one of my very good friends and we love working together.”
The director also revealed that the comic book character Gladiator will not be used in the sequel, since Marvel doesn’t control the rights to this particular character.
