Apple at today’s WWDC 2020 online-only event introduced rich and proper widgets in iOS 14 for the Home screen of your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch — finally! Although currently iOS 13 and earlier releases permit the user to press a Home screen icon like Camera or Notes with 3D Touch, or tap and hold it with Haptic Touch, for something that resembles a widget in the shortcuts menu, it’s not really a true widget in a sense that would permit you to interact with it, place it anywhere you want on the Home screen and so forth....

Samsung Omnia HD Gets Official At MWC 2009 Samsungannouncedthe latest iteration in the Omnia range today, the Samsung Omnia HD I8910, with a switch from Windows Mobile 6.1 to Symbian S60. The Omnia HD has a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen, capable of 16m colors, together with an 8.1-megapixel camera capable of recording 720p high-definition footage. As well as the media functionality, there’s HSUPA 5.76Mbps and HSDPA 7.2Mbps plus GPS. There’s also an accelerometer to flip the display orientation, and a choice of storage options: either 8GB or 16GB onboard, together with a microSD card up to a 32GB in size....

Samsung’s new solution for the connected home, based on a technology provided by SmartThings, a startup itannounced acquiringin August of last year, will play nicely with Apple’s own HomeKit platform, CnetreportedMonday. Although SmartThings CEO Alex Hawkinson did not detail precisely how HomeKit fits into Samsung’s strategy, he did confirm that his company’s SmartHome platform will support HomeKit. Noting that version 2 of its Hub device is HomeKit-capable, Hawkinson said that Apple’s platform is “not mature” enough yet....
