Tencent,the Chinese tech giant, has acquired a new studio:Kuro Games, previously under Hero Entertainment. Tencent now holds 51.4% of the shares, becoming the sole external shareholder of Kuro Games, best known for the successfulWuthering Waves.

In an internal message, the developer’s management confirmed that Tencent’s stake surpasses Kuro’s own holdings. However, they reassured the team that the studio’s strategy would remain independent and unchanged, much like Tencent’s other subsidiaries such asRiot Games (League of Legends)andSupercell (Clash of Clans).

Kuro Gameshighlighted the positive aspects of the acquisition, emphasizing greater stability and long-term support from a company heavily invested in the gaming industry.

Wuthering Wavesis a free-to-play actionRPGcurrently available onPC, iOS, and Android.It will launch on PS5 on January 2. Often compared to miHoYo’s phenomenonGenshin Impact, the game features fast-paced, fluid combat and an emphasis on player freedom in its open world. Its parkour mechanics and grappling hook allow quick traversal through its expansive map.

“With unique and diverse abilities, Resonators with distinct skills and personalities will join you as companions on your journey. Together, you’ll embark on an adventure into the infinite,” the studio states.
