The highly anticipated comic book movie sequelThe Batman Part IIhas suffered a lot more drama behind the scenes than anyone expected, with the follow-up recently facing another release date delay. Amid the backstage confusion, speculation about what the movie will entail, and who the main villain will be has run rampant. Now, directorMatt Reeveshas revealed several details about both, and suggests that all of the rumors about which DC rogue will haunt Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight are wrong.
Speaking withMTV Newsrecently, Reeves confirmed that they have settledon a villain forThe Batman 2and their choice will be “surprising.” He also assured eager fans that the script is in a good place, and will act as both a “continuation” while also bringing something “completely different” to the franchise.

“Yes, of course, or we’d really be in trouble. I hope [it’s surprising]. I think so. I think that the story is a continuation in a certain way and completely different in another. It’s gonna show a different side to Rob…it’s going to be really cool.
You just kind of look at [online rumors] casually and go, ‘Is that what they think now? Interesting. Okay.’ But you just put your head down and do what you do, and try to do it as best you can.”

At present, there are four main villains hotly rumored forThe Batman Part 2. The likes of the shape-shifting Clayface, the clandestine Court of Owls, the manipulative Hush, andthe tortured Mr. Freezecurrently top the list, but based on what Reeves has now said, it could be someone else entirely. Of course, there is also the possibleinclusion of Barry Keoghan’s Joker. Sadly, for now, we will have to continue to be as patient as possible. One piece of good news, though, is that Matt Reeves is determined to getThe Batman Part 2before cameras this year.
“This year we’re going to be shooting, and I’m very excited about it. There’s a lot of stuff going on, and it’s taking longer than I would have wanted, but also, I’m super excited about what we’re doing. So I really can’t wait to share that with everybody.”

The sequel will see Robert Pattinson return as Bruce Wayne/Batman following his critically acclaimed debut as the DC icon in 2022’sThe Batman, which follows an early version of the character in his second year of crime fighting as he comes up against Paul Dano’s Edward Nashton, AKA The Riddler.The Batmanfranchise has since expanded onto the small screen, with Colin Farrell leading a soloThe Penguinseries on HBO.
