In a player’s journey through Tamriel, it’s all about the friends made along the way rather than a rush toward the finish line. Becoming the champion of Cyrodiil is a great feeling, but saving a man from his strange dreams may be the real story that sticks with the player.

Review: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

This isn’t a remake by any means, but the updated visuals create the world of Cyrodill that’s been in your mind for years.

During this mission, the player can look around to find clues about a large cult in the town the worship “The Deep Ones,” and without spoiling too much, you might just encounter them. Very creepy, very rewarding, very fun.

9The Siren’s Deception

Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss, Girlgang

Life can be tough in the land of Cyrodiil, so the player may not judge too harshly an all-female gang in Anvil who allegedly lure men out of the city and then rob them, as men are too embarrassed to report their infidelity. The quest starts with a conversation with Maelona, and afterward the player has a few options with how they’d like to deal with the quest.

Even better, the quest plays out differently based on the gender of the player, so it’s worth two playthroughs to see how this quest can play out. Bonus points for the character whose literally named ‘Signy Home-Wrecker.’

Will Make You Rethink How Everyone Looks at You

Ever have the feeling that everyone hates you and is plotting your demise? Then this side quests may help your Paranoia as you traverse Skingrad and come upon a Wood Elf named Glarthir who believes the same is happening to him. Put the sword away and pull out the magnifying glass and sleuth around trying to determine whether Glarthir is Paranoid or incredibly well-attuned to his surroundings.

Now one could argue that following other people around would also increase their paranoia making the whole situation worse, but it’s the player’s adventure, so no worries. There are six possible endings to this mission, so choose wisely!

7The Fork of Horripilation

Sheogorath Strikes Again

If the player has not yet come upon the very seriously named “Fork of Horripilation,” the Argonian Big Head living in Bliss will go on and on about the darn thing, thus sending you looking for it to give him his fork fix. This hilarious quest includes a house full of forks, battling zealots and heretics, and a decent reward.

Luckily, you do not succumb to the power of the One fork, and are able to quell Big Head’s fork lust if you so choose. This mission is especially fun for players who previously played Morrowwind, as this is a sequel mission to a similar quest in that game.

6Through a Nightmare, Darkly

It’s Dream Diving Time

With the updated visuals of the remaster, player should again take a trip through the dream world with the Through a Nightmare, Darkly side quests. Asking about Kud-El around Bravil will lead you to the Mage’s guild and into a quest of dreams, where your perception, courage, patience and resolve will be tested.

No need to worry about your current load-out as the dream world does not let you imagine you kept all your things. Enjoy a weightless journey through dreams to save someone, and also use some items you may not yet possess, though you don’t get to keep dream loot, unfortunately.

5The Assassinated Man

A Dark Brotherhood Mission Lacking Murder, Sort Of

Many of the missions assigned by the Dark Brotherhood require straight-up assassination, but one requires a more delicate touch. The Assassinated Man requires a criminal so good at killing that they do not actually kill the target at all.

Working through the Dark Brotherhood missions will give the player access to this task, where Francois Motierre wants the player to fake his death in front of his intended assassin, Hides-His-Heart. The quest has several twists and turns, revealing the darker and more complex parts of Cyrodill, and its immoral inhabitants.

4Everything In Its Place

Make Anarchy Your Weapon

Looting, breaking and murdering can all be done for good reasons, as this interesting side quest has you considering a few options to deal with a mean slave-owner.Coming upon Fellmoor, something about the settlement is just not right, not that any slave-owning situation is.

After gaining the trust of Ranarr-Jo, the situation will be made clear, and the player now has the choice to do some robbery, breaking and entering or straight up assassinating. Some choices net more rewards than others, so be sure to think hard before choosing the easiest route possible.

3A Brush With Death

Remastered Meeting With A Painting Master

Strange, heroic adventures are what side quests are all about in Oblivion, and A Brush With Death delivers this perfectly. The fastest way to start this quest is to travel to Rythe Lythandas' house, where his wife will reveal her talented painter husband has gone missing.

This starts you on a quest that will take you into the painted world, battling with the greatest weapon available, Turpentine. This is an easy quest to miss if the player does not talk to the right people and easily one of the most creative quests available in The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered.

2Whodunit?

A Quick Game Of Clue In Cyrodill

They’re not called the Dark Brotherhood for nothing, as the Dark Brotherhood questline takes the player on morbid journeys. One of the most interesting ones is a party full of guests who the player must kill, with the stipulation that none of the player’s sins are witnessed.

There are a lot of moving pieces, conversations and personalitiesto juggle to get the bonus item of this quest, and will test the player’s patience and knowledge of the game and how to manipulate the characters within it. Take on the role of the master of gaslighting and wait for the perfect moment to strike to earn the best reward and enjoy one of the more complex side quests in The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered.

1The Ultimate Heist

The Ultimate Side Quest In Oblivion

One of the great strengths of The Elder Scrolls franchise is how successfully it creates a role-playing atmosphere where the player can choose and disappear into whatever type of character they choose.

One of the most fitting moments for players wanting to feel like a master thief is The Ultimate Heist, the final mission of the Thieves Guild questline and just a great test of the player’s skill, with a setting that really feels like it is the ultimate adventure of your thief/rogue character.Arm mysterious equipment, sneak past or battle terrible foes and then reap the rewardsof becoming the greatest thief in Cyrodill.
