The Outer Worlds 2has revealed new details about its development. The studio’s CEO,Feargus Urquhart, made some comments about the RPG in an interview where he stated that the game looks “incredible.”

The Outer Worlds 2 Development Is Going “Really Well”

Urquhart says that progress is going well. “The lead programmer is the same.Leonard Boyarskyis the same creative director,Brandon Adleris the director, andMatt Singh, who was a tester on Fallout: New Vegas, is the head of gameplay and content. We’re very fortunate; there are a lot of people on this project who understand it, having worked on the first game and at Obsidian for a long time. I’m really impressed.”

During the interview, he also recalled the challenges the developer has faced in recent years: “We were acquired, and then COVID happened. We were trying to release the DLC for The Outer Worlds and make progress onAvowed. We wanted to advance The Outer Worlds 2, Grounded, and Josh was working onPentiment. All this happened, and to be honest, we weren’t doing well for about a year and a half. We thought, should we halt The Outer Worlds 2 and move the team to Avowed? But Microsoft allowed us to continue with all those teams.”

Will They Meet The Deadlines We Originally Thought?

“No, but we will get there; that’s something we’ve already proven. Grounded and Pentiment turned out amazing, Avowed will be excellent, and The Outer Worlds 2 looks incredible. Now we have a foundation with everything we’ve done for Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 with Unreal Engine and all the tools we’ve created over the years to develop the next generation of games.”

Unreal Engine 5Will Shape The Studio’s Future

Additionally, it’s been revealed that this interview was conducted before we learned about the delay ofAvowed, so it’s surprising that Feargus himself boasted about having finished the title on time. This suggests that what we thought was an “excuse” by Microsoft to delay it to February 2025 is actually a real reason, rather than indicating some problem that needed to be fixed or more development time was required.

The Outer Worlds 2, he also states that “it looks incredible” and thatUnreal Engine 5will be the foundation, along with other tools, that will enable the new generation of games. But if you’re curious to see more from the interview, we can tell you that he also talks aboutFallout, the closure ofTango Gameworks, and much more, which you’re able to check out right here.
