What is Roku’s first voice-activated game? PerVariety, it’s been announced that a newJeopardy!game is coming to Roku which will allow players to play by shouting at the television. It is developed by Volley, a company known for creating voice-enabled AI games. Multiplayer with family and friends is available, though the game offers a single player mode which will have players competing against other real players whose answers have been prerecorded. Players will be shown how well they did compared to others with a leaderboard unveiled at the end of each game.

“Expanding to the Roku platform presents a massive opportunity to introduce more consumers to voice-enabled games that can be played alone or with family and friends,” Volley co-founder and CEO Max Child said in a statement. “The launch of ourJeopardy!game on Roku is the first of many games we plan to release on this platform in the near future.”

Jeopardy! Arrives on Roku

Volley was founded in 2016 with the company claiming to have a user base of more than 20 million players. WhileJeopardy!is the first voice-enabled Roku game, Volley has previously released games on smart-speaker devices including Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Volley has released voice-activated games based on other game shows likeWheel of Fortune,Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, andThe Price Is Right.

Jeopardy!remains one of the most popular game shows on television after originally premiering on NBC back in 1964. The show has undergone some different iterations, initially hosted by Art Fleming before Alex Trebek started his lengthy stint as host in 1984. Trebek sadly passed away in 2020, after which revolving guest hosts were brought in until executive producer Mike Richards was briefly named as the new host. Afterhis exit, Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings were brought in to serve as alternating hosts of the show.

Jeopardy!is currently in its 39th syndicated season with more than 20 million viewers watching every week. The show has also won 43 Emmy Awards over the years, further established as one of the most successful and beloved game shows on television.
