While X (formerly Twitter) is primarily known as one of the largestsocial media platformsin the world, later this year it will also become a platform for managing your finances. If that’s something you would want to trust it with.

Earlier this year, X’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, announcedthat Visa was the first partner for X Money, a new feature set to arrive on X “later this year,” which will enable users to connect their Visa debit cards to a digital X wallet and transfer funds to it.

Max with ads

X Money was widely assumed to be primarily adigital wallet service, but that may no longer be the case. According toApp Sensa, a mobile intelligence firm, it has found references to a physical X Money card possibly coming (viaTechCrunch).

The references were found in strings of code in the X app recently, which hint at some of the actions you can take with X Money’s physical card, including its activation, shipping status, reporting that it’s lost, damaged, or stolen, and requesting a replacement.

X Money may be partnering with Amex and Mastercard

It may be possible to have your X username printed on the card

Given the numerous references to the physical X Money card in the X app data surfaced by App Sensa, it seems likely that a physical X Money card could be introduced later this year.

Interestingly, there are also a few other pieces of information in the code strings. One mentions the ability to print your username, presumably indicating that you can have your X handle added to the card. Another two refer to Amex and Mastercard labeled as “payment_card_brand_amex_” and “payment_card_brand_mastercard.”

When X’s CEO announced the X Money partnership with Visa earlier this year, she noted that it was the “first of many big announcements about X Money this year.” So, it’s possible that announcements regarding a partnership with Mastercard and American Express could be happening soon.

X Money is part of Elon Musk’s plan to transform X into the “everything app.” It’s unclear when exactly X Money is expected to launch, other than “later this year.” The more I learn about X Money, the more I miss the days when X was known as the bird app.
